The old adage says ‘write what you know’ but even when I write about what I don’t know, as in this instance where I conjured a group of men from different countries working together on a construction site, it still comes down to what I have observed, or sensed, figured out, or even misunderstood along the way.

In Yesterdayland, I’ve written some of the men I’ve met over the years who have a capacity to care. I think it was important for me to put a group of them together here, and experience such a collective, if only for the duration of the writing.
